The NeighborhoodLIFT program reduces out-of-pocket costs when buying a home by providing forgivable, interest-free down payment loans with no required payments. Eligible homebuyers use the money from these loans for the down payment and closing costs of a home mortgage.
These forgivable loans work by requiring the home buyer to live in the home as a primary residence for at least five years. The down payment loan does not require repayment – making it forgivable as long as the home buyer does not sell, refinance, or foreclose the home, and the title is not transferred during that time.
